Fun/Tiring Work, Poor pay

I worked multiple positions at Panera and had a great time working with peers who became friends. Downsides were the minimum wage pay and the owner of the store.

Customers and lack of corporate concern for staffs well being

When I was hired on at Panera the environment was entirely different than it is today. They used to care about the needs of their staff. Now just like so many other corporations you will simply be a replaceable cog in their soul crushing machine.

Great work environment and amazing staff

If you are looking for a good first job or just looking for a nice atmosphere, this store had it! They were so sweet and I made many friends although it can be stressful if you aren’t used to the stress of production.

I don’t like it.

The job is stressful. A typical day is hard to describe because of the variation of guests that day but expect to stay late. I learned customer service. Management sucks. The managers get so stressed and refuse to help. The workplace culture is only somewhat okay because of the employees, who are all so kind. Hardest part is getting out of a closing shift at 11pm on a school night bc the managers don’t care. Most enjoyable is talking to friends!!

Fun workplace, lazy management

All the managers are very two sided, they will show great personality towards you, but discuss any and everything about you behind your back. They also are very emotionally based, if they don’t like you then you won’t be scheduled or if you want PTO or to take anytime off you will be denied(if they don’t like you). Absolutely ZERO overtime is allowed and if you reach your max hours you’ll be sent home.

Not a bad place to work when you get the chance run from it fast.

What is the best part of working at the company?Most the associates, you are in trauma Environment and you only have each other to get though the day.What is the most stressful part about working at the company?No staff, management pushing the workers that are to do more work with less staff. Management gets upset when you need time off. Promises to give you a raise and never gives them. That can’t see why employees are quitting instead of looking at themselves they blame the employees for staff quitting..What is the work environment and culture like at the company?The work environment has a lot of trouble with keeping staff. Not sure if it is trauma environment poor management, inappropriate comments to staff from management. If you have a good group of people that can work together it is not a bad place. Doing a lot more than your getting paid for

It was ok definitely not for everyone. Minimal training and you get home around 10:50 if you work the evening shift. Wouldn’t recommend if you’re looking for an after school job. Definitely not getting paid enough for everything you have to do.

Good job.

Was a good job. Pay was $11 plus tips that were split per hour for everyone working that shift. It is a good job for people in school and transitioning to college.

Good first job

Fast paced environment; coworkers were always very nice and managers were easy to talk to which does defer location to location, customers were the worst part but overall a good first job for highschoolers

They have too many constant changes

The company has mostly great people who work inside of cafes. But the corporate management team is completely clueless and they love to make changes to procedures constantly that really don't make any sense. They're intentionally decreasing product quality and cutting corners left and right. As a long term employee of Panera, I think it's shameful because the brand used to be much better than this.

Great team

The team and management were great. Good employee discount and flexibility with scheduling. Can be overwhelming during busy times but overall a fun chill job. Team felt like a work family.

They don't care about their Bakers

You'd think for a company called Panera Bread that brags about making fresh bread daily they would treat their baking staff with any level of respect. A year ago they forced all of the baking staff to swap from the Overnight shift to the 2-10pm shift. However these restaurants are not built for both the baking team and the retail team to be in the building at the same time. Now the retail team must deal with hot racks, less space to work with, and rude customers demanding the fresh bread from the oven. The bakers must now do their shift in a crowded store where you have a bunch of people in your way, the retail team using the dishwasher and oven when you need them, and rude customers who think they are pro bakers because they watched the Great British Bake off once. To make things better they also have been moving all fresh items to frozen to just lower the quality of the product even more. If you work at Panera you should never join the baking team as at least with Retail you aren't expected to do a 2 person job by yourself while everyone is making your job more difficult.

Good summer job, average pay, generally pleasant

Busy on mornings and weekends, but not nearly as much other times. Food preparation and catering is easy, all of the orders appear on screen and you quickly get fast and efficient. Barista is done by cashiers, who definitely have the brunt end of workload and customer frustration. Dishwashers also bus tables, but have a good bit of autonomy. Management tend to hire from within, and good management and team leaders can make the job pretty enjoyable. Tips are collected each week and shared evenly across all non salary employees. Scheduling is rigid, do NOT expect a call if you got a shift mixed up or you're late, if you don't call or come in, that's on you. Food waste is a big concern, portion control will save everyone time and hassle.Corporate is pretty decent, they have reasonable but high standards. Each day the excess bread and pastries are donated locally.

Change the shift 11am-7pm

Just because it says no overnight shift, doesn’t mean 2pm-10pm makes it better. So change it to 11am-7pm, 12pm-8pm. The company needs to closed on Sundays and holidays as well.

Stressful and Unfair

If you want to work in a stressful environment where you’re overworked and not fairly compensated, this is the place for you. Wouldn’t recommend to me worst enemy.

I spent more than 5 years with the company and even came back after I had left to explore elsewhere because I really enjoyed this job so much. The biggest issue that was constantly faced was staffing and upper management support. GMs would do what they could to make things work, but they were so overworked that I felt bad seeing it happen.

Fun at first

The best part about working there was the people. In the year an 1½ I worked there it started out nice. A new job that wasn't too stressful. Eventually I invited my friend to work with me being told I would get a refferal bonus, in the following months I never did even after asking repeatedly. They only gave those working morning shifts raises and promotions. The general manager ignored reports of SA. New hires were getting paid more than those who had worked there for years. And people began to leave due to how stressful it got to work there. Then we were understaffed with normally 3 people closing the whole store. During rush hours with 3-5 (when we should have 8) we were always behind on orders due to being understaffed. Some customers were understanding while others cursed and yelled at you for a 40 minute wait or forgetting silverware. At this point of being regularly understaffed the pay was not worth the stress. Only nice part was getting free food at the end of the night that would have been thrown out. Also the friends I made through a horrible experience.

Not the worst work environment, but not the best.

The place isn’t the worst place to work, especially with fast food/fast casual work environments. You have more autonomy than most jobs and management can work with you on scheduling. That being said the pay/benefits could be better, and they are slowly trying to move bakers away from being bakers and giving it to other employees to add extra work, and I can not imagine it getting better anytime soon. Baking is slowly getting easier and baking in general is getting reduced. That being said they are generous with daily break meals & generally lower rung employees are nice and chill, with some managers that do try their hardest to bar for us (even though corporate makes that difficult). If you need a job go for it, but wouldn’t recommend staying long-term.

Fun place to work

I like the management and I like the perks such as switching roles between positions it made my time there go by quickly. Just make sure you’re careful around the soup tub!

Great for experience

The experience at Panera is great if you're looking to begin your career, however, there is poor management and poor training program when you first start.
