No work/life balance, but decent people and pay

Home Depot paid pretty decent during my time there, but in my position there was no way for me to have a set or somewhat consistent schedule, which led to numerous shifts ping-ponging from starting at 5am to 9am, or closing with no real reason. Management was pretty good at my location and seemed to care about the people if you were doing your job right. Not a bad place to work, but not a long term one for me.

Overworked and understaffed

When I switched to paint, I had very little training (video or in person) and frequently had no back up. I pretty much had to learn things through trial and error. I frequently didn’t have back up especially at the start of my shift which is the busiest part of my personal shift. Unfortunately this means that my first break, didn’t normally take place until 3.5 hours after I started. Eventually, I broke and then we tried to get someone new. It took about a month to get a concern regarding safety answered. On more than one occasion it was expected of me to do what the entire department had failed to do just because I leave last. Overall, corporate is choking the store and preventing enough people from being hired.

It's a good temporary job

It's a typical retail job, average pay and benefits, for fairly easy work. However, don't expect guidance or leadership, this isn't the company for that.Leadership is happy to be in their position and only care about furthering their own careers.The only good thing I can say about the company is that you get a week vacation every 6 months.

Home Depot spends a lot of time trying to show employees they appreciate them. They provide free lunches at least once a month. There are drawings and prizes for different events. You earn personal time every month after the first 90 days. You also earn vacation time every 6 months.

Great Enviroment

It's a great company to work for. Family oriented environment and management is pretty cool. The work on the hard side. You can't be afraid of heights you won't last. The hours you work aren't consistent though.

Inconsistent Management

Pay is great, benefits too. Don’t expect the management to care about you. They aren’t consistent at all. One manager will tell you one thing, the next won’t. Then boom, you’re fired.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?When you are alone and need to help customer , unlock thing and walk thing up , when a customer calls you , and gobacks all at the same time What is the work environment and culture like at the company?I like the working environment and culture of this company not bad its actually fun working here . What is a typical day like for you at the company?Depends on what shift you in early morning, afternoon or nights . I really like night shift because you do the freight and it's like a work out and you get payed more . So it's like getting payed to workout.

Typical service related work enviorment

Hyper focused on safety to the point of annoyance. Expected reasonable flexibility in scheduling but management was reluctant to adjust. Typical large business that has good employee benefits but you are just a number on the payroll.

Decent job

Starting pay is pretty good and the work is not unpleasant. Management is very accommodating and the staff are friendly and easy to work with. Will learn a lot about plumbing.

I loved working here!

I really did enjoy working here. If you want to learn, you will have the opportunity to. However there can be favoritism. If you care enough to do a good job, then you'll definitely have fun here.

If you are not in the "click" you dont advance

Too muc h favoritism. You dont advance if you apply for other positions or departments they give it to the people they befriend. It is unfair theh cut hours just go give others more hours

Similar to other retail stores but good.

Management varies as turnover is relatively high. If you can learn to survive in retail, this will be fairly easy. Only caveat is safety. Forklifts and others make it tricky. The pay is good, and the benefits are okay. Scheduling is easy enough.

The lack of encouragement feels like you're working for a machine

I've always enjoyed the people that I've worked with at Home Depot but I believe Management puts undue stress there's very little encouragement and it varies from store to store unfortunately the store I'm leaving I'll be happy to say goodbye it's a give me give me give me do more do more attitude and a thankless environment and I am very happy to leave that behind I've always had a very strong work ethic but there comes a point when all you have to give is not good enough

Low pay & some customers are so rude

As a millwork associate, I think that specialist should some be paid commission for their contribution. Also, working with customers can be difficult.

Fun

It was okay. Could get boring if you're just servicing bats all day and not assigned projects to complete. Overall a decent job though. Pay was not great though.
